I created this pattern for a quick and pretty scarf for Special Olympics.

Quick and Simple Hearts Scarf

Size: 6 inches wide 54 inches long

Supplies:
J crochet hook
Yarn needle
Scissors
Worsted Weight yarn (I used Redheart Super Saver)

Stitches Used (US Terms):
ch – Chain
Dc – Double Crochet
st – Stitch
sts – Stitches

Note: Ch 2 does not count as first stitch.

  1. Chain 21. Dc in 3rd chain from hook and in each chain across. (19)
  2. Ch 2, turn. Dc in each stitch across. (19)
  3. Ch 2, turn. Dc in first 9 sts; ch 1, skip 1 st, dc in next 9 sts. (18 dc, 1 ch space)
  4. Ch 2, turn. Dc in first 7 sts; [ch 1, skip 1 st, dc in next st] twice; ch 1 skip next st, dc in next 7 sts. (16 dc, 3 ch spaces)
  5. Ch 2, turn. Dc in first 5 sts; [ch 1, skip 1 st, dc in next st] 4 times; ch 1, dc in next 5 sts. (14 dc, 5 ch spaces)
  6. Ch 2, turn. Dc in first 3 sts; [ch 1, skip 1 st, dc in next st] 6 times; ch 1, dc in next 3 sts. (12 dc, 7 ch spaces)
  7. Repeat row 6.
  8. Ch 2, turn. Dc in next 3 sts, dc in chain 1 space; [ch 1 dc in next space] twice; dc in next st, dc in next space, dc in next st, dc in next space; [ch 1 dc in next space] twice; dc in next 3 sts. (15 dc, 4 ch spaces)
  9. Ch 2, turn. Dc in each st and space across. (19 dc)
Now, repeat rows 2-9 until you reach half of your desired length. I made 5 hearts. Now we will work the pattern in reverse for the same number of repeats. This is where I switched colors to incorporate both of the Special Olympic colors in my scarf.
  1. Ch 2, turn. Dc in each st across.
  2. Ch 2 turn. Dc in first 4 sts; [ch 1, skip 1 st, dc in next st] twice; dc in next 4 sts; [ch 1, skip 1 st, dc in next st] twice; dc in next 3 sts. (15 dc, 4 ch spaces)
  3. Ch 2, turn. Dc in first 3 sts; [ch 1, dc in ch space] twice; [ch 1, skip next st, dc in next st] twice; [ch 1, dc in ch space] twice; ch 1, dc in next 3 sts. (12 dc, 7 ch spaces)
  4. Ch 2, turn. Dc in first 3 sts; [ch 1, dc in next dc] 6 times; ch 1, dc in next 3 sts. (12 dc, 7 ch spaces)
  5. Ch 2, turn. Dc in first 3 sts, dc in next ch space, dc in next st; [ch 1, dc in next st] 5 times; dc in next space, dc in next 3 sts. (14 dc, 5 ch spaces)
  6. Ch 2, turn. Dc in first 5 sts, dc in ch space, dc in next st; [ch 1, dc in next st] 3 times; dc in space, dc in next 5 sts. (16 dc, 3 ch spaces)
  7. Ch 2, turn. Dc in first 7 sts, dc in ch space, dc in next st; ch 1, dc in next st, dc in next ch space, dc in next 7 sts. (18 dc, 1 ch space)
  8. Ch 2, turn. Dc in each st and space across.
Repeat rows 1-8 until you have completed the same number of repeats that you did for the first half. Work one additional row of dc. Fasten off and weave in ends.
