Today’s carol is my absolute favorite carol.  I am including two versions for you all.  The first is a very pretty rendition.  The second is more modern, my 17 year old son’s favorite version.  I hope that you enjoy them as much as I do!

The gentle version:

The modern version:

Can you believe that we are so close to Christmas?  My children keep telling me that it doesn’t feel like Christmas to them.  I think that it must be because we have had blue skies every day.  And I think that we need to listen to more Christmas music!

Okay, speaking of needing to feel more Christmas-y, how about making jingle bell bracelets with your children?  Then wear them!  I our local store carried bells I would make these for sure.  It always seems like Christmas when you hear jingle bells.  Hmmm, I have GOT to have some bells around here somewhere, lol.

And continuing in the theme of feeling more holiday-ish, how about making felt Christmas trees and felt gingerbread houses?  Super cute and these would be great to give as gifts too.  I know I would love to recieve one from my family or friends.

Today’s Scripture verses:

CHRISTMAS IS a HOLIDAY:

Hebrews 4:9-16

New International Version (NIV)

9 There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God; 10 for anyone who enters God’s rest also rests from their works, just as God did from his. 11 Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will perish by following their example of disobedience.

12 For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. 13 Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account. Jesus the Great High Priest 14 Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has ascended into heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. 15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin. 16 Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.

Jesus is our sabbath rest.  So let us remember that our “holiday” is in him.  A holiday is a time to rest and relax.  As we go about making this holiday special let’s not forget where and Who our true Holiday is.

Now for me, today I am going to hunt up some jingle bells and pipe cleaners.
